![]() I've isolated this as an issue with just this machine: I have a 2019 15" MBP that I use for work and it's getting 500-700mbps on WiFi-but it's still on Catalina. If I connect the computer directly to ethernet and turn off wifi via the toggle, I get speeds of 900mbps up/down. Since upgrading, though, I'm only seeing speeds of 40-50mbps up and down while on wifi. I knew that degraded wifi speed was a potential issue, so for the weeks leading up to the upgrade I checked my speed with (and their app) and was routinely seeing speeds of around 500-700mbps up and down while connected to wifi. I'm on a 2019 13" MacBook Pro and over the weekend upgraded to Big Sur (11.6.1) from Catalina. WiFi extremely slow after upgrading to Big Sur To start with, I know this is a very common issue and I've read probably 100 posts in this forum looking for solutions, but so far nothing I've tried has worked. Switching to wifi, I get results that I would expect on all speed tests considering the wifi capabilities of the 2010 mac pro.Ĭould the ethernet ports on the mac be bad? I am at a total loss. I have replaced the cable, switched ethernet ports on mac and router, reset PRAM and SMC, started in Safety mode, and "created new ethernet connections" in system preferences and changed DNS settings to google and cloudflare with no improvement. ![]() I've taken the same ethernet cable and plugged it into my wife's windows laptop to get normal results on the google speed test Sometimes webpages graphics won't load, similar to being on dial up. Videos will stutter and play at resolutions of 144 or 360. I wouldn't care what the results were, if it weren't for some issues I'm having on youtube and other sites randomly. However, if I do a speed test with google's internet speed test with M-Lab, I get results like 4 mbps down and. If I do a speed test thru Verizon or ookla I get results that I would expect, in the 800's mbps down and similar upload speeds.Įverything was fine until a couple of weeks ago. Super slow ethernet on on Google Speed Test I am having a very tough time figuring out what is going on lately with my internet connection over ethernet. ![]() If anyone can offer any advice or anything please throw a line. This occurs whether I'm connected by way of ethernet or wifi. I'll mention that obviously I'm connected to the internet when I am running these speed tests. The only other thing I can think of is that in the last round of Catalina security updates is when this issue started happening. That it must just be me and they don't know how to help me. When I emailed Ookla support they claimed the website works on all of their Macs and they don't know what I'm doing wrong. Even turning off my iMac's firewall, my Microsoft's Onedrive temporarily in case that might've caused it. Listing off all the settings in the original router. I talked with an Apple Representative weeks ago and they very kindly sat on the phone with me to help me run through a course of issues. Below is the image from the Ookla speed test.īelow is the results from the Google speed test for reference. The Comcast tech wanted to blame my iMac but the speed test doesn't fail when I use the Google speed test. However I am still experiencing the same issue. I went from a single band Motorola Router to a Netgear Nighthawk router. First I thought it was my router and actually there was a problem with my router so I bought a new one. ![]() Okay so I have been trying to run speed tests using the Ookla/Xfinity for weeks and over a month now with no success.
